Privacy Policy

Effective June 5, 2026

Homeroom (“Homeroom,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your personal information when you use our platform and services. By using Homeroom, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information We Collect

When you create a profile, we collect the following information:

  • Identity: First and last name, profile photo
  • Contact: Email address, phone number
  • Social media: Platform and handle or URL (used for identity verification only)
  • Professional: Industry and occupation
  • Financial: Annual income range, monthly housing budget
  • Optional: Pet photo and description

We may also collect usage data, device information, and IP addresses when you interact with our platform.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To verify your identity and eligibility for the platform
  • To match you with compatible roommates and available apartments
  • To operate and maintain the Homeroom platform
  • To communicate with you about your account, matches, and platform updates
  • To process payments through Stripe
  • To enforce our Terms of Service and protect the safety of our community
  • To comply with legal obligations

3. What We Share — and What We Don't

Your profile information is not shared with other users on our platform, with one exception: if you apply to a listing, your full profile is shared with the relevant parties (the Lister and, where applicable, the landlord) to facilitate the application. You consent to this sharing by submitting an application.

For roommate searching, you control what you share. You introduce yourself in a Slack channel however you choose — your profile data plays no automatic role.

The only information visible to other Slack workspace members by default is your Slack display name (first name) and profile photo, as required by Slack. Everything else remains private.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

4. Third-Party Services

We rely on the following third-party services to operate. Their respective privacy policies also govern how your data is handled within those systems:

  • Slack — Community and communication. Privacy Policy.
  • Stripe — Payment processing. Privacy Policy.
  • Supabase — Data storage and infrastructure. Privacy Policy.
  • Vercel — Web hosting and infrastructure. User requests, including IP addresses, are processed through Vercel's network. Privacy Policy.

5. Identity Verification

Every Homeroom member is manually reviewed and verified by our team before gaining full platform access. Social media information you provide is used solely for this verification purpose and is never shared with other users.

6. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as necessary to provide our services, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. If you request account deletion, we will remove your personal data within 30 days, subject to any legal retention requirements.

7. Data Security

We use industry-standard security measures to protect your information. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, but we are committed to protecting your data to the best of our ability.

8. California Residents — Your Rights Under the CCPA

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) grants you the following rights:

  • Right to Know: You may request details about the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you and the purposes for which it is used.
  • Right to Delete: You may request deletion of your personal information, subject to certain legal exceptions.
  • Right to Correct: You may request correction of inaccurate personal information we hold about you.
  • Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your CCPA rights.
  • Right to Opt-Out of Sale or Sharing: We do not sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hi@withhomeroom.com. We will respond within 45 days as required by law.

9. Children's Privacy

Homeroom is not directed to individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a minor, please contact us immediately.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via email or a notice on the platform. Your continued use of Homeroom after such notice constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
